4) Accident

John Jones's accident in nutty putty cave

On 24 November 2009, a 26-year-old man named John Janes enters the world’s most dangerous cave, Nutty Putty Cave. John Janes was a professional caver. He enters this cave with his brother Joss Janes. John decided to go to those paths in this cave where any professional caver was afraid to go. There was a place in this cave called Birth Canal. Its path was so narrow that even a child could not properly get out of it. How difficult would it be for an adult to enter it. Many times people were stuck in this birth canal for a day. Than they had to be rescued later.

John and his brother Joss were racing to see who could pass through the birth canal of this cave and who could go to the last part of this cave. Both John and his brother Joss were slim and fit. They probably should not have had any problem in passing through that birth canal. Nutty Putty Cave was not just famous because of its narrow paths, but it also had a maze of paths. Finding the way to the birth canal was a challenge in itself. The biggest thing was that the map of this cave was not complete. Because there were many paths in this cave on which no one had the courage to go.

John and Joss were crawling forward in the narrow paths of the cave. Now since this plan was John’s, he was moving ahead. Little did John know that this plan of his was pushing him towards a trouble. Both of them were crawling forward on the path of the birth canal but here John made a mistake. When John was moving forward, he did not know which path was of the birth canal. By mistake he turned towards another path. Which was more dangerous and narrower than the path of the birth canal.

John was moving forward sliding on that narrow path. But further the path became more narrow. So narrow that John was having a lot of difficulty in moving forward. John had gone so far on this narrow path that now he could not turn back. Because it was very difficult for him to turn back in such a narrow path. John thought that maybe if he found a wide path ahead then he would take a turn from there and come back. In this hope John kept moving forward but further the path turned downwards.

John thought that maybe there was a big room below so he would go there and take a turn back. John slowly started descending on that lower path. But suddenly John slips down and gets stuck in a dead end which was closed from the front. His position in that hole was such that his hands were pressed under his body. His head was down and legs were upwards. This place was so tight that he could not even move here. John repeatedly tries to get himself out of that place. But all his attempts fail.

John was now stuck in a tight place 100 feet below the ground and 400 feet away from the entrance of Nutty Putty Cave. Getting out from here was going to prove to be a big challenge for John. From here begins the heart-wrenching story of John’s survival.

3) Rescue

Now John started shouting loudly to call his brother for help. Hearing his voice, Joss comes to him. Joss could only see his brother’s legs. At first, Joss made fun of his brother’s condition, but when he realized that his brother was really in big trouble, Joss was shocked. Joss grabbed his brother’s legs and started pulling them with all his strength. But the place was so narrow that Joss failed to pull his brother. Now Joss had only one option left to get his brother out. To call the rescue team.

There was no mobile network inside the cave. So he consoles his brother and comes out of the cave to make an emergency call. After coming out, he makes an emergency call and calls the rescue team. But it was still going to take 3 more hours for the rescue team to reach Nutty Putty Cave. After three hours, the first team of the rescue team reaches the mouth of the cave. This rescue team was led by Suzy Motola, who was a professional caver. Suzy enters the narrow cave and reaches John and assesses his condition.

Slowly, other rescue teams also reach there. After this, a plan is made that John will be pulled using ropes using a pulley system. By now, doctors had also reached the site of the incident along with the rescue team. A doctor asked Suzy in which position John was stuck. So Suzy told the doctor that he was stuck upside down. His head was down and feet were up.

Here the doctor gave another shock. The doctor said that John would be able to survive for a maximum of 10 hours. Because John was hanging upside down, his heart was having a lot of difficulty in sending blood to his feet. Due to being upside down, the blood of the body started accumulating in his head. Due to this, the risk of his organ failure was increasing.

Now the pulley system was installed after drilling and John’s feet were tied with a rope and he was pulled up. Finally, the rescue team pulled John out of that hole after a lot of difficulty. John was just about to come up when a pulley got dislodged and John again got stuck in the same place where he was earlier.

A lot of time had passed by now. John’s condition was getting worse while hanging upside down. But John was physically very fit. Because of this, he was still able to survive. Here the rescue team was busy installing that pulley system quickly and in a few hours they were ready to pull John up again. The rescue team started pulling John up with the help of a rope. This time they were successful in pulling John up. The rescue worker who was in the front saw John’s face and his face had turned completely red. His eyes were red as if blood had come into his eyes.

Now John had almost come out. Just one last attempt was to be made so that John could come out of that place completely. But perhaps fate had something else in store. As soon as the rope was pulled for the last time, the pulley came loose and hit the head of the rescue worker who was holding John’s legs. As soon as the pulley came, the rescue worker fainted and John’s legs slipped from his hands and John got stuck in the same place once again. Now first of all that rescue worker is taken out of the cave and he is admitted to the hospital.

Here the work of taking John out is started once again. But now it was probably too late, John had now become completely silent. He had stopped moving. When John’s pulse was taken from his legs, it was found that John had lost this battle of his life. He has now said goodbye to this world. John kept fighting for his life in that narrow place for 27 hours. It was now decided that John’s body should be left buried in the same place.

2) Ban

Nutty Putty Cave ban officially

In the year 2006, Nutty Putty Cave was closed by the government. But the professional cavers opposed this decision of the government. People believed that the government has no right to ban natural things. People wanted this cave to be opened again and people should be allowed to explore it. Finally the government had to change its decision and in the year 2007 this cave was reopened with new rules.

This time only those people could go to the cave who had many years of caving experience. Along with this, to get permission to go to the cave, one had to apply 21 days in advance. But after John Jones’s accident this accident, the government officially closed the Nutty Putty Cave.
